252-3001-00L Advanced Topics on Information Systems
Course Content
This seminar covers research topics in the general area of
information systems. This semester, we will revisit some of the classic papers on database systems.
First Meeting and Schedule
The seminar will be organized in two blocks. That is, we will
meet on two Saturdays during the semester at which the talks will be
given. However, we will meet for the first time on September
21, at 3pm in Room CAB G 52. At this first meeting we will
discuss two things:
(a) assign topics to students and
(b) determine the two Saturdays that meet everybody´s
schedule.
Seminar Topics and Schedule
The list of topics, schedule, and
other relevant information is available here.
Rules
Each participant writes a self-contained report of about
10 pages. Furthermore, each participant gives a talk of about 30-45
minutes. The first version of the report is due two weeks before the
date of the talk. This first version of the report will be discussed
with the supervisors (Gustavo Alonso or Donald Kossmann) in the week
before the talk. The final versions of the report are due at the end of
the semester.
Grading will depend on the quality of the report, talk,
and active participation during the seminar.
