- The final exam will take place on June 2, 2009 Tuesday, at 9:15 in CAB G51. It is open book, papers, lecture slides, and your notes (no laptops). Please do not forget to bring your student id cards.
- The fifth (and last!) exercise sheet has been handed out. Please submit your solutions by May 26, 2009 Tuesday at the regular lecture time.
- The fourth exercise sheet has been handed out. Please submit your solutions by May 12, 2009 Tuesday at the regular lecture time.
- The programming project has been handed out. It is due May 19, 2009 Tuesday at the regular lecture time. Please start early!
- Please set up your project groups (1-3 students) and let us know as soon as possible so that we can set up your cluster accounts.
- There will be no lecture on March 24. Instead, there will be a Hadoop Lab Tutorial given by Shantanu and Alex, in CAB E31, starting at 9:15. Please be there!
- The third exercise sheet has been handed out. Please submit your solutions by March 31, 2009 Tuesday at the regular lecture time.
- There will be no exercise session on March 10, 2009.
- The second exercise sheet has been handed out. Please submit your solutions by March 17, 2009 Tuesday at the regular lecture time. Also, please do not forget to submit your solution to Question 3 of exercise sheet #1.
- The first exercise sheet has been handed out. Please submit your solutions by March 3, 2009 Tuesday at the regular lecture time. For now, only solve Questions 1 & 2. Note that all exercises will be graded and will make up the 20% of your final lecture grade.

Course Objective
The purpose of this course is to teach students the fundamental concepts of distributed data management systems and their current application in various modern settings. The students will also gain some practical experience in building distributed data management applications through a programming project.
Course Content
This course explores the fundamental concepts in design and implementation of networked information systems, with a special emphasis on issues related to data management. In addition to the classical topics of distributed information systems, we will also study modern applications involving the web, peer-to-peer systems, sensor networks, and data stream processing, to name a few.
