Tobias is a PhD student at SPCL. After receiving a Master in Computer Science from ETH Zürich in 2005, he joined a R&D service provider where he worked in numerous projects ranging from feasibility studies to mid-sized application / library developments. The projects covered advanced topics such as cryptography, machine learning or computational physics. Most of his projects had a strong focus on performance optimizations either by developing efficient implementation strategies or by employing accelerators such as GPUs or FPGAs. Lately he designed and implemented a stencil library which facilitates writing performance portable codes running on CPUs and GPUs. During his PhD Tobias will further pursue the topic of performance portability considering advanced compiler technologies.
